As a Filipino hand therapist and physiotherapist practicing in Dubai, my professional journey has been one of growth, resilience, and deepened purpose. The United Arab Emirates, with its fast-paced and multicultural healthcare environment, has offered both challenges and invaluable learning opportunities-pushing me beyond my comfort zone and reinforcing the core values of my clinical foundation.
Transitioning from the healthcare system in the Philippines to the dynamic setting of Dubai required rapid adaptation. I have been privileged to work with a diverse patient population, including expatriates, tourists, and local residents. These interactions have greatly enriched my perspective and taught me the importance of cultural sensitivity, clinical adaptability, and patient-centered care in an increasingly globalized healthcare landscape.
A significant milestone in my professional development has been my participation in the Virtual Hand to Shoulder Fellowship. This program expanded my clinical knowledge and sharpened my ability to assess and manage complex upper limb conditions. The virtual format provided the unique opportunity to learn from international experts while remaining actively engaged in daily clinical practice. The thoughtful integration of theory and real-world application significantly boosted both my confidence and competence as a therapist.
I am especially grateful to Mirella for her invaluable mentorship and dedication throughout the fellowship. Her expertise in upper limb biomechanics and evidence-based rehabilitation strategies has had a lasting impact on my practice. Her guidance has empowered me to approach
rehabilitation with deeper insight, precision, and individualized care for my patients.

Beyond the technical and academic gains, this experience has reaffirmed my identity and mission as a Filipino healthcare professional abroad. It is with pride that I represent my heritage while continually striving for excellence. Cultural humility, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to patient well-being are now firmly embedded in my approach to care.
This reflection marks the close of an important chapter in my journey and the beginning of another with renewed purpose. I am eager to carry forward the knowledge, values, and inspiration gained through this fellowship as I continue to grow and serve in the field of hand therapy.
